The happy, creative hobby of Mary Meyer

Introduction

With this blog, I feel as if I am really starting to get into the realm of multimedia. This post is my first audio profile, and I will admit that I’m feeling a little proud of myself. Learning how to use the audio editing software was a bit difficult, as I will explain later. However, with this audio profile, I’m believe that I’m starting to get a handle on the “multi” part of “multimedia,” and am learning how to engage with the various types of possible content.

Background and Content

Even though this audio profile is supposed to be self-contained, a little background would help provide context. The subject of the profile is my mother. She is the home keeper of our 40-ish acre homestead in Wheatland, WY. Because she is the home keeper, she tends to involve herself with the more day-to-day aspects of the farm. She also has a variety of hobbies, one of which she will talk about in the profile.

A sample of soaps: Mrs. Mary Mary, age 46 holds a small basket of soaps that she likes to make. According to Meyer, “Creating soaps makes me feel blessed, thankful, and joyful that we are able to share them with other people.”

Reflection

The interviewing experience with my mother was fun and excellent. She was a good subject to interview who understood my requirements and provided what I think are excellent quotes. Working with Audacity, however, was much more difficult. It was difficult to manage some aspects of the software. Copying some sections of audio wouldn’t work and I couldn’t seem to skip too far ahead of the audio while it was playing, but overall it wasn’t impossible.

In the vein of being honest, taking the photo for this post was a bit of a rush job. It was staged and taken during the recent Spring Break. The interview was conducted in the office of the house, so the photo was taken there post-interview. I was enjoying the small time off and my mother was managing a batch of chicks that had to temporarily be moved indoors, so it was difficult to coordinate a proper photo shoot.

The photo is definitely something that I do wish I would have done differently and more smoothly. Besides it and the unexpected difficulties working with Audacity, nothing else really surprised me about the assignment. Going forward, I can see myself using audio recording and editing to build up, at minimum, my personal brand. I have great interest in the wider audio-visual realm, with hobbies including video games and role-playing games. I think I could use audio recording and editing in ways like creating game reviews, recording a podcast based on a Dungeons & Dragons game, or conducting interviews to show off both my hobbies and my skills.
