Side by side: The 2022 Gremlin Motorsports Car Show in Torrington, WY

The second traffic light in my tour of tires took me about an hour north-northeast of Wheatland to Torrington. Torrington has a special place in my heart. It is home to Eastern Wyoming College, a community college where I took my first steps in higher education. I graduated in two years with two associates degrees, then it was off to University of Wyoming for another two years.

I decided to indulge my academic nostalgia before going to the car show, though my expectation were not high being that it was a Saturday morning in July. The campus was closed, but it was good to see a place which holds fond memories. After my short trip down memory lane, I was off to find the car show.

Finding the event was a small adventure in and of itself. The flyer which I had taken a picture of didn’t have a location printed on it. My first act was to ask a group of folks who were either about to start or just finished a 5 kilometer Color Run. They pointed me in the direction of Jirdon Park, which was not my destination. Using my cell phone, I determined my goal might be Pioneer Park instead. After stopping to ask a resident for directions, I found myself crossing railroad tracks and arriving about 15-30 minutes then what I had hoped.

Like with the 2021 Blue Mountain show, whittling down a list of cars which I liked the most was difficult. The reason why I was struggling was because of quantity of similarity. While the European cars from the 2022 Blue Mountain show stood out because they were European, most if not all of the cars at Torrington were American makes and models. Though I appreciate “old school” displays of Detroit iron, it is nice to glimpses of car culture from other parts of the world. And I still haven’t found out answers to the questions I posed retrospective on the ’21 Blue Mountain show. I quote myself from that article;

Reviewing the photos I had from from the ’21 car show, I found myself with a pair of niggles in my head. Among the cornucopia cruising cavalcade of classic cars, which ones are we drawn to and why? Why do we like these collections of cloth, bolts, and paint?

I think I need to be more pointed with my questions for interviews. I’ll refine my to-ask list for the third and final car show up in Casper come this weekend. Oh yeah, current me writing this blog needs to correct past me. The car show in Casper wasn’t August 6th. It is August 13th, three days away from when this blog goes live. Even with a blot calendar and a cell phone, I sill can’t keep dates straight. I’ll see you in Oil City!
